Okay, so I've been here 6 days...and spent $250 (25000yen). <.< SHIZ. I budgeted my savings to spend about $50 a week...so oops. But I'm blaming the immense spending on the fact that I just got here and had to buy essentials (shampoo, body wash, etc etc) and because I haven't gotten my scholarship yet (it starts in September). After I get that, I'll have an extra $350 a month to pay for food and transportation, which is a big portion of what I've been spending my money on. In estimate, I think I've spent about $80 on food so far (that sketchy barkeep lady got 20 of it <.<..so maybe more like $60). I also had to buy a train pass from Kameido to Akihabara which cost 4700yen and then paid probably about another $20 on train fare so far. They ask you to put money on your card in denominations of 1000yen, so I had to put at least that much on there for fare other than the commuter pass. So maybe about $70 or so on train stuff? (but that means I don't have to pay anymore to go to Akiba for school, which is good...but I do have to pay if I'm going elsewhere like Tokyo station or Shinjuku/Shibuya station etc. like I am tomorrow). I also bought my kanji DS cartridge which cost me 4350yen. After that day, I was 10000yen down. :/ So if I break it down like that, I've spent like...
8000yen on food
7000yen on transportation
4350 on DS game (which was necessary)
and then the last 5000 or so on...
karaoke, suju merch, other stuff like hygiene/beauty products, stuff for my room etc.
I shouldn't feel too bad though, since I really haven't been spending money on myself very often. The only stuff I've bought for myself are the suju goods and then 4 CDs today (that only cost me 500yen TOTAL because they were used) that I'll probably end up selling on LJ when I take a break back to the US.
Tomorrow I'm getting my alien reg card done so I'll have to take passport-ish pics there for 600yen, spend money to get to the office, and then I'm going to Shibuya (more $$) and going to a nomihodai type place for Stefanie's bday which is going to cost 3000yen >< I'll probably buy a phone on Tuesday or Wednesday which will probably cost me between 15000 to 20000yen. <.< Time for me to exchange more money :/ But in September, when I get my first scholarship deposit, they give us an extra 80000yen in the first month, so with that I'll pay myself back for all the 'settling' type things I've paid for.
Because of the expenses so far, I'm not sure that I can afford going to Dream Concert anymore. I'd LOVE to go and it's really a once in a lifetime chance, but the only bands I'm really going for are Suju (who I just saw...I want to see them again ><), DBSK (who I am seeing in a few weeks, and who also might not even be performing because of their dispute with SM), Shinee and SS501 (who I have seen before), and Big Bang (who will probably tour in Japan within the year). So it may not be worth it for me to pay $800 to fly to Korea and see them. Especially if they're only going to play a few songs each. I'm sure there will be other great korean concerts in Japan like the Family Lotte concert (suju and big bang played it last year). I'll just have to keep an ear open for it.
