Health Clearance-DONE!

Thursday was my health clearance appointment for study abroad. Hurrah for that! It was quite a simple process...height, weight, eye sight, etc. nothing to drastic and it only took maybe 30 minutes total. But sheesh, paying $98 for THAT? so not worth it. Ended up having to pay out of my own pocket because my bank account didn't have that much (which would had been my parents money <.<).

Besides health clearance, I'm working on getting my bank statements together. For this particular program, we need to to show financial eligibility in that we have 1,320,000 yen (about $14,000) to pay for nearly half of study abroad. That sum can be made up of multiple bank account statements and LUCKILY IRAs and mutual funds. We chose the later route cuz no one in my family has that much money just sitting around in the bank. Hopefully I'll be getting those scans/copies soon in the mail from my mom.

Regarding money...again, I'm working on a scholarship, the Duttenhaver Scholarship that my adviser recommended to me. You don't actually have to be on federal financial aid to get it, but can explain your financial need for it in a 500 word statement. My Japanese professor said she'd write me another letter of recommendation and I am so grateful for that (I asked her for an extra copy too so i won't have to ask her again in case I apply for more.) Also have to order another transcipt copy so I'll be getting on that soon.

Just a few more things to fill out/copy/print and I'm done! besides receiving stuff in the mail business. I hope to be finished with the packet application in about a week ^^

Steps Closer!

Today I finally received the actual letter of acceptance from EAP. haha. Kind of redundant since I've known about it for about a month. I had to print out a sign the Statement of Intent which I'll turn in tomorrow. (pretty much explains my conditional acceptance--gotta get a B or better in Japanese is all :])

I got my chest x-rays done on Tuesday...pretty fast process. I haven't been to a doctor's in probably a decade though? So i get into the x-ray room and the lady tells me 'Strip from the waist up...including your bra'. WTF <.< Luckily she stepped out and I got to put like this weird...uhh...patient cover up top things on. But yah...awkwardddd. Or maybe just unexpected :P

Later that night I printed out more forms and worked on my study plan essay (500 words) which I finished. Still have to print that out as well (I'm killing so many trees! T_T). also sent in another question to my adviser (I swear, he probably hates me...I ask him something every other day <.<) about the bank statements I have to get. Oh! And I got my passport pictures taken on Saturday. I guess I'm ahead of the curve though...since Monday my adviser sent out an email saying that other people had suggested going to one place rather than another since we have to cut down the pics from 2x2inches to 3x4cms. I don't even know why they ask for passport pictures that cost bundles when we just have to cut them up <.< But anyhow, I guess the ones I took were ok..even though I apparently went to the wrong place. Oh well.

Just a few more things to do until I'm done! YAY!

Scheduled Health Clearance!

I FINALLY got my health clearance appointments made. FINALLY! After having to talk to Laura countless times since she hadn't received the information from EAP yet, today we had a breakthrough and actually scheduled something! Next tuesday between classes, I'm going in to get my chest x-rays done, which will take 5 days to receive the results. Then the following thursday, I'll go in for my actual physical and get that taken care of. I need to reprint the confidential health forms though...since I had turned them in to the Tang Center and Laura threw them away because she couldn't use them yet. <.< Uhh, yah, a bit unnecessary. So I'll just use the printer at work again and print them out, get them done, etc etc. Or maybe I'll print them out at rescomp. All and all, I'm happy I finally got that out of the way...now on to other things...like filling out other paperwork, more passport photos (which I think I'll do on Saturday), anddd writing out that 500 word study plan. oh joy :]

Still Working on Paperwork

So, continuing on in my process of becoming a study abroad student, I am STILL working on these damn paper applications for Keio University. After visiting rescomp again to print out paper which I had messed up on, I am left with the few remaining daunting tasks.
1. Health clearance--visiting a doctor and getting probed is not on the top of my 'to-do' list...EVER. Not to mention I probably haven't visited a doctor in over 8 years <.<

2. Get passport pictures taken...lots of them. That requires me to actually look good, which i never do after 4 hours of class or 4 hours of work. Well, great.

3. Get a statement from the bank saying I have enough money to pay for study abroad. uhhh, lol. We pay the monthly bill MONTH BY MONTH. we never have extra in there. Wonder how that'll fare.

4. Possibly order another transcript and get ANOTHER recommendation letter. I guess I'll only find out if my advisors spell it out for me. There are too many lists! Which one am I supposed to follow?

5. Fill out this really long, complicated certificate of eligibility. ew.

6. Write out in 500 words what my study plans are. crap. I forgot, studying is involved in this thing. jk.

I hope that's it? I'm sure I'm forgetting some. :[
